Other Canadians

I was talking with another Canadian last night who is based in Phuket and has been there for 15 years. He is involved in some of the Tsunami Aid projects going on in Phuket. Specificaly, he is helping rebuild boats for some of the local fishermen. He is paying for the materials needed to help these people that lost their means of business. Ill be travelling up to Phuket to watch their first boat launch in the next few days. Ill have some photos up on the web for that. He had some good advice though. The Thai government had originally reccomended he build some homes for fisherman who had lost everything. Sounds great. But the thing was, when he got a
translator to talk to the locals for him, none of these people wanted to relocated to the location the government had chosen for them. The location was miles inland, no where near the coast where they needed to be to make money. It seems as though there is always a gap of understanding between what is actually needed and what people ie(governments, the press) are saying that is needed. The one thing I can take from this which is something I've learned many times over, is follow through on all
things yourself. Which is what I will be doing. Fortunately, I have some good contacts here that can help me find the right project.
