Lots Of Work To Be Done Here

I'm in contact with about half a dozen groups directly involved with the Tsunami Aid relief here in Thailand. One promising lead is a group that requires funds for building a daycare/preschool for children that have been displaced as a result of the Tsunami. There is also many more projects that we are interested in. At this point I don't think it's going to be a matter of will we find someone that needs our help. It's just a matter of choosing a group or several groups to support.

For those interested, the situation on Phi Phi island, where Rubina passed away, doesn't look that good at the moment. Despite this, there are some great things that have been done on the island and there is a lot of good people there. Alot debris clean up, and some small scale building(about half a dozen small shops) has been done. As mentioned before there are a lot of people there trying to help out in this small scale reconconstruction, but in the end it might all be for nothing if the Thai government steps in. At anytime the government could come in and stop the small rebuilding projects and people from coming back to start up their small businesses.Officially there is suppose to be no one back on the island, but tourists and locals alike are going back to rebuild and reclaim what they feel is rightfully theirs. There is a lot of discussion about the island going high end and becoming another 1000 dollar a night resort for wealthy tourists. There has also been discussion about making the island more environmentally friendly as the island was a big polluter before. There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment and no one is sure what exactly is going to happen.
